In 2015, Lifeline invented a format: a stranded astronaut texts you for help, in real time, and your choices keep him alive — or not. The original series has gone quiet, but the format it created is very much alive. Here are the best games that carry that torch, tested and honestly described (including, full disclosure, our own).

Is Lifeline still available?
The original Lifeline games by 3 Minute Games can still be found on the App Store and Google Play in most regions, but the series has not seen a new release in years. That is precisely why players search for alternatives.
What makes real-time interactive fiction different from visual novels?
Two things: the story arrives as messages rather than scenes, and it unfolds on a real clock. When the character says they need three hours to cross a glacier, the next message really arrives three hours later — usually as a notification. The waiting is part of the fiction.
When do the LN Games titles come out?
